Why the Spurs are fine Even Without LaMarcus Aldridge?

Basketball rumors are everywhere. As a matter of fact, people follow every detail and every angle of it. Jabari Young of the Athletics once stated that it is just a matter of time before Aldridge leaves the Spurs for Blazers. The Big man from Texas has two more years left on his contract and the last year was partially guaranteed. Moreover, if he opts into the last year, at age 36, the Spurs, maybe can save financially.

In the event that the Spurs are without the service of an All Star big man, here are the reasons why the Spurs can still contend on a very dangerous western conference.

First is Luka Samanic from Croatia.  Luka is ready to take over Aldridge’s position. In the Summer League he showed interesting potential. Chiefly, at 6’ 11” Samanic is a perfect big man on today’s NBA.  He can pull off from the perimeter and beat his man to the rim. The 19th pick can also shoot the ball from beyond the arc, play great defense and a great passer for his size.

Second the other four young guns of the Spurs namely, Dejounte Murray, Derrick White, Lonnie Walker IV and Jakob Poeltl. These four are already competing at the highest level. Even the 2019 19th pick Keldon Johnson can already be entrusted with some valuable minutes.

Further, with Demar DeRozan still on the Spurs uniform, he can provide depth and space to open up the floor. While Murray, an All Defense first team every year can challenge the offence any day. Next, is Derrick White possibly winning Sixth man next year and Walker a starting two-guard can be annoying on the opposing teams’ defense. Last is Jakob Poeltl who can extend his range outside the paint.

Lastly, in the 2021 free agency, the Spurs can again run for marquee free agents. But the main target here is Steven Adams who is still 27 years old.  The big man from New Zealand will bring toughness inside the paint. Adams is a subject of any trade rumor but nobody wants his hefty contract. He is a guy who doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be efficient.  14 points and 8 boards are achievable every night for him. Steven Adams a big guy with essential playoff experience.

The Spurs loves LaMarcus Aldridge. He can be a mentor to two young Bigs namely; Samanic and Poeltl. Aldridge can still contribute when needed but not on a hefty price tag.
