In the last 10 games, Lamarcus Aldridge and Jakob Poeltl paired to man the paint, the Spurs are 9-1. The Big Man All Star scored 23.1 points and nine rebounds. He only put 10 points and 4 boards the last time Jakob Poeltl off the bench. Meanwhile, Jakob Poeltl played with Aldridge, scored 7.3 points, grabbed 8.6 boards, and 2.2 blocks per game. Those opponents he was guarding is like of Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, Steven Adams, Nikola Jokic, and Jusuf Nurkic. Two of these are All Stars and others contributing well at their team success.
Coach Popovich need to be consistent on starting this two big together, as Lamarcus can focus on scoring and building the momentum for himself or the team if he gets going early on. His energy is not burned out on defense as he isn’t bother because he know Jakob was there to back him up, to battle everything for him.
Another good thing, if Aldridge found his range, DeRozan can make things well, as he also not looking to score too much. He is just working on his play, against the Celtics and he had 11 assists. For him he is not worried of who is scoring as the team firing everything. And if the starters were out, they had a chance to maintain their lead as Rudy Gay can scored off the bench. Pop will not worry of giving a lot of rest for the starters.
The more this two big play together the more the paint and lane was harder for everybody to score, as they will settle to take a shot at low percentage and if they misfired, it’s always a good chance for the Spurs to beat everybody.
