The San Antonio Spurs dropped their third straight preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans. But there are positive signs that the team improving from the previous games. The Spurs secured a ten-point lead at halftime with the starters playing rightful minutes. A good thing that the starters are starting to create chemistry on each other.

With the absence of LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay, Trey Lyles step in on the place of the All-Star power forward. The Spurs set the tone early with the double-digit lead. Gregg Popovich looking to maximize his team with Lyles he gives better spacing with the team. Even he’s not hitting his shot his defender still respects him with his range. Trey Lyles can work with the guards like Dejounte Murray and DeMar DeRozan who love to get in the paint. Offensively, Lyles is also a good playmaker for his team. This means another body for the Spurs who can help them in the long term.

Demarre Carroll on his second game as a Spur was making the right things for his team. He played his role by giving team chances to score and hitting long-distance shots. The Spurs who took the fewest three points attempted last season seems likely to improve with him on the court. With his versatility on defense, it’s a good thing to see how scary the Spurs on the defensive end when the season starts.

As a team, the Spurs accounted for 37 free throws which are a good thing. All of them are aggressive and not settling on outside shots. A free throw is the easiest thing to score in the game. Plus when the team is aggressive they put opposing players into foul trouble which can be an advantage for the team. It can be frustrating for opponents when they put on the early penalty.

The consistency of Bryn Forbes remains stable. Yes, this game is just a preseason game but it can give you confidence if your shot is falling. It makes you ready when Popovich calls you for a play or needed a clutch shot in the right situation. Forbes makes his team better ever since last season he started for the Spurs.

The young guys are looking good in limited minutes with Lonnie Walker IV and Quindarry Weatherspoon. They are slowly learning the Spurs basketball. As an individual playing on limited minutes can motivate them to improve the hard work every time they get their minutes.

Derrick White in limited attempts makes his case why he is in Team USA last summer. After started 1/13 from the field he made two of his three shots and dished three assists. It can give him more confidence in going through.
