Good things happened in Spurs against the Magic

The first preseason game for San Antonio Spurs against the Magic resulted in a loss with a score of 125-89. Without DeRozan, Carroll, and Patty the Spurs played their starters in limited minutes. A few good observations in their first game since April.

Bryn Forbes continues his good shooting hitting five of his six three-pointers. Last season Forbes was the most consistent Spurs from the regular season until the game seven of first-round playoffs. Keeping this momentum will benefit the Spurs offense. The better he can spark the offense off the bench. Even they had the log jam on guard position it’s fine for a team with a depth chart.

Dejounte Murray coming off his return from injury feel his presence as a point guard. He leads the team and defending the passing lane. It was a good sign for him that the Spurs will rely on him big this season. Murray was no hesitation in his jumper. He was dubbed that he will be a great point guard when he perfects his jump shot.

Lonnie Walker IV played well as he improved his passing skills dishing out five assists. It’s good to see that a scorer and a good defender can make his team involve. He started in the place of DeRozan as a small forward.

The Rookies exposure was great it can help them building confidence. The more minutes they stayed the coaching staff can evaluate what needs to address on their game. Even these guys will play the majority of their minutes in G League. It’s right for them to develop every game if they had a chance. The Spurs had a history of giving contracts to undrafted free agents in training camp from the past.

Of course, Tim Duncan as an assistant coach was a good presence to the team. The franchise defines him. With his locker presence, the Spurs need him in every situation. His guidance with these guys will play a big part in the Spur’s success.
