The Spurs is playing the worst basketball this season as ranks 11th in the Western Conference. Leading by DeMar DeRozan and LaMarcus Aldridge they only got 27-36 before the coronavirus hit the nation. As we believe that the Spurs will need a major rebuild to improve the team. Expiring contracts and soon to be a free agent will likely out of the Spurs uniform.
These guys are likely to be out of their way to give the young guys time to make the future bright for the franchise.
The Spurs starting shooting guard played for all 63 games this season with an average of 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. Forbes shoots 39% of his three. The undrafted guard from Michigan State is on last year of his contract which he logged all four seasons in Spurs uniform. Offensively his good, the worst about him is his defensive downgrade. Openly he’s been a mismatch every game which Dejounte Murray played too much on defense to cover those weaknesses. Also, Bryn Forbes is the man in front of Lonnie Walker IV minutes which is a better two-way player. This kid from Miami showed the potential that he could be a part of the team’s future. With Forbes on the roster, Walker will split those minutes.
The veteran marksman playing the worst season of his career. With his 6 points per game the lowest since his rookie season. He only shoots 37% of his three it’s far from his first campaign in Spurs uniform six years ago as he lights up from the arc. Marco Belinelli playing 15 minutes per game that could be given to some young guys like Lonnie Walker or Keldon Johnson and coming rookies.
This could be a tough one as DeRozan is the Spurs leading scorer and creator. The problem is the Spurs didn’t improve significantly with him as he likely wants to get paid when he enters free agency once he opts out his player option. Dejounte Murray made his career-high in scoring when DeRozan sit with an injury. While the veteran guard needs the ball on his hands to contribute for the team as he isn’t fit a guy like Dejounte Murray. DeRozan unwilling to shoot the ball from the arc make him a one dimensional offensively using midrange and attacking the basket. Without him, the Spurs can find a good value in free agency with some money to spend.
Honorable mentions are LaMarcus Aldridge and Rudy Gay. With some hints that Aldridge wants to get back in Portland, the Spurs may trade him for future assets. While Rudy Gay is playing worst in Spurs uniform after a good year last season. If a contender offers a pick for his service, the Spurs likely to move Gay.
