Spurs made a huge mistake about Luka Samanic (FOR NOW)

One of the Spurs picks this year is Luka Samanic from Croatia. Pundits have been surprised the way Spurs drafted him earlier than expected, picked at 19th overall. He’s in the Spurs radar since FIBA Tournament Under18. Prior to draft some of the mock results show that Spurs will pick Brandon Clarke a 24-year-old forward from Gonzaga Bulldogs. He could be a perfect fit in San Antonio Spurs with his relentless energy. Brandon Clarke is one of the readiest prospects in the 2019 NBA Draft.

The Memphis Grizzlies forward will be a lock into All-Rookie First Team with his 12.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. Clarke also helps the Grizzlies to get a huge advantage for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Already appeared to 50 contest this season and the Grizzlies have a winning record with 27-23.

While on the contrary, Luka Samanic just played once in garbage time. He scored zero points on four tries, grabbed 2 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 12 minutes. If we compared these two Samanic is far and could be a disappointment. But we only get upset because the Memphis Grizzlies had a better record than San Antonio Spurs. Luka Samanic is only 19 years old with a lot of works in his game.

In NBA G League, Samanic playing 28 minutes with 15.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. He only needs to improve how to secure the ball but it’s understandable due to inexperienced. He’s the youngest teenager coming from Europe after Tony Parker in 2001. With his size at 6’9″ he can put the ball on the floor while beating his man off the dribble. Few NBA players can do that on that size, it’s only Kevin Durant. When the time he reaches 24, Samanic is a bonafide contributor in San Antonio. The young kid shows how to escape his man with his great footwork and dribbling skills using behind the back. With great first step against his man to beat from outside.

With Spurs’ oldest good player is Derrick White at 26, Murray is 23, Walker is 20, Jakob Poeltl 24, and Keldon Johnson is only 19. The Spurs are building with these great young guys, so when you look at the big picture Samanic could be a solid project. He’s been just the right fit to play together with these young guns in the future. The Spurs pull a huge asset that everybody doesn’t care about. Before we know Luka Samanic could be one of the best point forward in the league.
