Report: Bucks and Nets showed interest in trading for DeMar DeRozan

It was reported that the Brooklyn Nets and Milwaukee Bucks had shown interest in the availability of Spurs swingman DeMar DeRozan according to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson. Spurs veteran has a player option worth 27.7 million this season and he could opt out if he wants another long-term deal.

The Bucks want to make a run and fulfill Giannis Antetokoumnpo wants to keep him in Milwaukee. They were the top seed in the league for two consecutive seasons but came up short of their main goal. Bucks are two games away to reach the NBA Finals in 2019 at the Eastern Conference after leading the series 2-0 against the Toronto Raptors but they lost four straight games. Then this season, they lost on heavily underdog Miami Heat in just five games on which Giannis Antetokomnpo hobbled by injury. With a lot of rumors that Antetokoumnpo much simply leaves the Bucks to have a better chance of winning it could put pressure on him to perform and maybe won’t sign an extension and leave in free agency for a bigger market. The Miami Heat, Toronto Raptors, Dallas Mavericks, and Golden State Warriors are those teams highly interested in the superstar. Against these teams, they have a big market to spend money and pay superstars than the Bucks can give plus given the facts that they already have much more established star than the Bucks had.

On the other hand, the Brooklyn Nets had a solid cast behind Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving once they get healthy. They need another proven star to make a run in the Eastern Conference and they could be the favorite. Having Derozan on their roster could add another option in terms of scoring. Nets been in the postseason for two consecutive seasons but failed to win a playoff series as the lower seed. As Kevin Durant on his 30s, the Nets are expected to make a run to contend for a title.

Both Nets and Bucks’ front office had a connection with the Spurs. Mike Budenholzer has been the assistant since 2003 and gets hired by the Atlanta Hawks in 2014 until he was rehired by the Bucks two years ago. While Sean Marks been Spurs champion as a player in 2005 and the front office since 2014 before he takes over the Nets job in 2016.

The San Antonio Spurs on the other hand is on a full rebuild to start a new run after missing the postseason for the first time in 23 years. Getting a return for DeMar DeRozan will be a huge investment not only on getting picks but for having a cap space that they can look for another guy they intend to sign. It will give more minutes to their young guys without DeMar DeRozan.
