The Spurs rookie playing on Austin in NBA G League recorded his career-high 30 points a few nights ago. Quinndary Weatherspoon who pick 49th overall in the last 2019 NBA Draft is doing his assignment well. He helps the Spurs ranks fifth in the Western Conference with 12-9. Weatherspoon had 13.5 points with 43% from the field and 32% from the arc. Added his 4 boards, five dished and 1.2 steals per game.
The rookie out of Mississippi State University is like a veteran with a high understanding of basketball. Calmly taking over the game when needed. Prior to the season starts he was compared to Kawhi Leonard. The Spurs league premier defender until they gave up via trade. Weatherspoon’s specialty is how to slow down his opponent.
Quinn is comparable to Spurs veteran Patty Mills. A veteran role player who isn’t afraid of big moments. Second-round pick also out of St Mary College. With the team drafted him the Portland Trail Blazers he rarely used and got waived. But when given the second chance in his career. With San Antonio, he helps the team win the 2014 titles. With the way he played, Mills not giving up as he showed in the court.
The rookie is a much bigger size than Patty Mills, big and athletic. He can really bang-up inside the paint with his physicality. Being a 6’3 and 204 pounds is big enough. Quinn will be a good back up like Patty Mills in the near future. His work ethic is like what the Spurs need. The only thing different from them is being a playmaker and Mills just really looking for his shot.
If Quinn keeps working hard to develop his game he can find a good amount of playing time. He will be one of the good stories for San Antonio Spurs in seasons to come. The Spurs are the best in the business to do a job with the second-round picks.
