Opportunity is what the “trash” need to make an impact on his team

After a disappointing five-game losing skid, for the first time in six games, the San Antonio Spurs found themselves defeating another playoff-bound team. After blowing a 23 point lead against the Denver Nuggets, this one they executed a perfection until the final buzzer. The Spurs were led by Dejounte Murray who just missed his first shot in the third quarter after hitting five straight. He’s been fantastic in this Rodeo Road trip so far having 2 turnovers in six games. With the absence of DeMar DeRozan for the second straight game, Murray leads his team into a must need a win against the Oklahoma City Thunder 114-106.

It looks not easy for Dejounte Murray which the man standing on his front is an elite All NBA Defensive member Chris Paul and a young second-year Shai Gorgeous Alexander. The veteran is very clever and the other one is much taller and longer than Murray. But the Spurs guard isn’t intimidated as he makes his shot after shot. He had the confidence to take it into the lane and put a simple crossover. No hesitation for his shot from any part of the court.

Dejounte making his case as one of the best points who can score in the paint. As eight of his career-high 25 points came from the paint.

Dejounte Murray also leads the defensive assignment on Chris Paul as the veteran works hard to get for his points. Wherever he goes the long arms and active hands of Murray are on the ball. The point guard veteran needs another guy to give him the freedom to put the ball in the bucket. Murray is all over the place in every Oklahoma’s guards and wings. A total lockdown when he’s going to guard everybody.

People label Dejounte as trash when he’s off of his game. Sometimes he took more turnovers than assists. But without DeRozan, he tasks for more to create good opportunities for teammates and for himself at the same time. Murray had freedom for what he’s going to do with Lonnie Walker IV on his side as one of the premier wing defenders. He’s not worried about the other guy if open because there’s another one who can chase to guard. The more he can save on defense, Murray has been efficient on the offensive side of the ball. The more he touches the ball, the more he can be effective on offense. He only needs an opportunity to made a greater impact on his team.

LaMarcus Aldridge with 25 points and 14 rebounds, while the bench added 20 points from Patty Mills and 17 from Derrick White. The Spurs improved to 23-31 and two games remaining on their road trip.
