Jakob Poeltl on his foul trouble: I did it in purpose to get ready against Joel Embiid

The San Antonio Spurs are down with personnel as LaMarcus Aldridge and Trey Lyles are not in the bubble game due to injury. So Jakob Poeltl needs to stay more on the court to provide some protection in the paint.

Jakob Poeltl who played 33 minutes in the very first game, was far from the last time against the Memphis Grizzlies which he only stayed for 21 minutes. He’s been on foul trouble all game and got fouled out with five minutes left in the regulation. Luckily, Drew Eubanks has a great game with a career-high 23 minutes. The undrafted big man adds 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks for the Spurs win.

The Spurs were scheduled to play on a back to back against the Philadelphia 76ers. With Joel Embiid had a monster game against the Pacers, Poeltl jokingly responds.

” I need to get ready and match Joel Embiid production after he did a 40/20 the other night. So I did it in purpose if I stay fresh against the Sixers I can handle his physicality and limit him to 35/18.”

The Spurs will rely on Poeltl to minimize the big man All-Star. The Sixers provide size and athleticism against the new look but effective Spurs small ball rotation.

I will convince him to stay more on the bench so both teams has an equal chance of winning.”

Spurs are 2 games back as the 8th seed after a thriller win over the Memphis Grizzlies with the help of Boston Celtics who also survived the Blazers rally.
