Sacramento Kings guard/forward Buddy Hield expressed his frustration with general manager Vlade Divac about his reserve role. After they got traded a trade three years ago, the Kings yet to make the playoff failed to improve this season despite had the potential to make the top eight in Western Conference. The franchise has an NBA record of missing postseason, the last time they are in 2006 while Ron Artest is their main guy. For the last three years, they’re in the lottery, passing on one of the great prospects and now MVP candidate Luka Doncic. There are rumors with the 2020 Three-point champion want to get traded in one of the Southwest Division teams.
With the five teams, the Spurs and the Pelicans had the best shot but the Spurs had the readiest talent to help the Sacramento Kings. New Orleans Pelicans is a team that traded Buddy Hield for the rights of DeMarcus Cousins. Pelicans had a young asset but are they willing to throw it with the player they give up three years ago? The Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and Memphis Grizzlies which likely to be a playoff-bound team has no real asset who can pry Hield. It’s not wise for Sacramento Kings if they can only get a mid-first-round pick for such player. Unless these teams will make a trade for their key players. The Rockets only have James Harden and Russell Westbrook as they look at their franchise savior. Same with Luka Doncic and Ja Morant with Jaren Jackson Jr. These guys are untradeable at this moment of their career.
While the San Antonio can throw DeMar DeRozan via sign and trade if they want to get Buddy Hield. With the Spurs, Hield can be a shooting guard or switch to small forward if the Spurs are willing to start Lonnie Walker IV. A good fit to Dejounte Murray who’s shot is limited in the arc. The Spurs can add a guy who can defend well his man, shoots above average, can create on his own offensively. Hield will make the Spurs offense run smoothly even he’s not a good playmaker like DeRozan in Spurs uniform. Plus he’s only a 27-year-old guy which his contract is below max. This means it can give the Spurs flexibility to sign good players in free agency or extend their upcoming free agents players. Adding an extra 10 million on cap space will be a good thing for Spurs.
For Sacramento Kings, they will have another pure scorer who can help the young teams to reach the postseason. A good tandem for De’Aaron Fox and Bogdan Bogdanovic. This team only needs a legit scorer to lift up the team and DeMar DeRozan is that guy.
Why the Spurs will pursue this thing if the unhappiness for Buddy Hield still continues until the offseason? Imagine, the five of Murray, Walker, Hield, Aldridge and Jakob Poeltl. The defense was stack from all positions despite there’s a height advantage on small forward. Dejounte Murray is an All-Defensive team member and he’s doing it every second on the court. Hard for opposing teams to find a mismatch. The Spurs will not worry for the three-point shooter if Aldridge can make his own, while Lonnie is improving. Jakob Poeltl will be busy inside defending the paint area while giving Spurs second chance points offensively.
This “unhappiness” could be a big deal once the season is done, and if Buddy Hield committed to a Southwest team the Spurs will get their chances.
