Gregg Popovich knows how bad the starting unit is but he didn’t make a change, is he tanking?

After a bad start against the Brooklyn Nets, the Spurs can’t find a way to help themselves get back in the game. They look helpless in the paint as the Nets scored 62 whopping points, outrebounded by 17 boards. Gregg Popovich quoted that the starting unit is worst all season long. With the combination of Dejounte Murray, Bryn Forbes, DeMar DeRozan, Trey Lyles, and LaMarcus Aldridge. Only Dejounte is excellent on defense all season, Aldridge is declining at this stage if his career.

Pop via FSSW broadcast: “That was embarrassing defense, soft.” “I thought the guys that played in the fourth quarter played with more physicality, more attitude.” Pop mentioned the starting group’s defense has been a problem not only tonight but all season.

There are a lot of ways to adjust and make better but Popovich remained to this rotation. The only thing he adjusted is the minute contribution to Lonnie Walker IV and by decreasing to Marco Belinelli. The Spurs are beaten by teams with Bryn Forbes as the primary target on defense. Second, the Spurs are just giving Murray and Derrick White limited minutes under 25 per game. If they want to win, the Spurs should try these two by giving young guys to develop.

The last time the Spurs miss the playoffs is in 1997 and they made 22 playoffs appearance.

Losing more games could make the team better chances at the lottery. There a lot of good prospects from Deni Advija to James Wiseman. After 61 games if they can’t pull out they will pick 11th, got 9.4% on the top four and 1% with the top pick.

There are 21 games left for the Spurs and just 4 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies. Let’s see what the Spurs will take if they can pull this off. Either thing playoff or lottery the Spurs are just rebuilding their future.
