Prior to the start of the Spurs game against the Dallas Mavericks, Chris Haynes reported at TNT broadcast about DeMar DeRozan contracts. With a player option, next year and the Spurs yet to extend the former All-Star.
On the TNT broadcast, Chris Haynes reports that if the Spurs and DeRozan can’t come to an extension agreement, DeRozan intends to decline his player option and become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Haynes says DeRozan becoming a UFA wouldn’t “close the door” on DeRozan re-signing with SA, but other teams like the Knicks would have an interest. After the game, DeMar DeRozan replied to the media when asked if there is the truth about the report.
DeMar DeRozan, on the report during TNT, broadcast he would opt out this summer if he and the Spurs don’t come to an agreement on an extension: “Did my momma say it? Then don’t listen to it.” The tweet comes from Jeff McDonald.
Pundits believe that the guard/forward likely to opt-out once the free agency begins to take advantage of the weakest market this summer. The New York Knicks is one of the teams interested in his services. DeRozan had a 27.7 million player option he signed in Toronto Raptors in 2016 before he was dealt with San Antonio last year in July 2018 trade.
