Dejounte Murray proving critics wrong

The Spurs point guard who has rewarded 64 million dollars of extension last year was been highly criticize for his performance. After missing the postseason for the first time in 23 years, the Spurs look fun, and most of all they’re improving. In their first seven games, Dejounte Murray is playing well with a 3-4 record. First, he recorded a 21/6/9 at 67% shooting, the second one although he struggled on shooting he still managed to do a first career triple-double with 11/10/10. While on his fourth game this season, he scored a career-high 29 points with 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Murray only had one bad game against Utah Jazz after he only made one field goal in 13 attempts. But right after he bounced into a big win against the Los Angeles Clippers.

The 2019-20 season for Murray had a lot of inconsistency with some of his minutes came from limited playing time. Another reason is Dejounte Murray playing his first season after a major ACL injury. In the first seven games this season, the Spurs point guard contributed enough with a 3-4 record. He knows where to make his shots and when to make the right pass. He averaged 15.9 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 5.7 assists per game with great shooting at 46% from the field, 26% from the arc, and 73% at the line. He leads the team in shooting at the rim as he made 79% of his shot and 40% to 50% around 15 feet and above. Dejounte Murray has been perfect also in the transition games.

The big part of Dejounte Murray’s great start is the changes and role in the rotation. The Spurs playing into a fast pace game almost take away the post-up and isolation part of the game. With Murray’s average of more than 30 minutes per game, he had a lot of ways to contribute great things. The rotation also helps him to get better as Gregg Popovich employs young and aggressive guys with a lot of defensive upsides to help Murray locked in the perimeter. The fourth-year guard was second on his team in scoring, rebounds, and assists, and first in steals. The perfect game was far from what the Spurs wants from Murray because of his turnovers issue. The Spurs point guard is among the best in defending the perimeter with 4 deflections per game.

He’s seventh in the league in total deflection.

Although Murray needs to be consistent on his offense every night to make his team better. At the age of 24, he can still improve offensively. The midrange game is his money so far. Murray distributed the ball well as he achieves a career-high assist so far. Most of his teammates were set to improve on their own game which Murray is also expected to do the same.
