The PBA third conference was set, with twelve teams to compete. Few from it had a shot to win the elusive title. The San Miguel Beer is on running for a grand slam that the Purefoods achieved in 2014 under Tim Cone. The Magnolia is trying to defend the crown. Barangay Ginebra trying to regain that they won in 2016 and 2017.
I think there are only five teams who can really have a real shot. Here are those who can win at any given time.
Tim Cone the best of the best. He knows how to exploit the advantages of every match up. They had the best import, Justin Brownlee. He is on three years in the Philippines, he already perfected the system. Brownlee is a definition of a winner. They are eager to prove and regain that title. The bench is so depth, Joe DeVance, Jeff Chan, Dillinger, Dela Cruz, Scottie Thompson. With Stan Pringle already adjusted in a triangle. Plus the improvement in Greg Slaughter’s game. There is no reason why the Ginebra can’t win it again.
The defending champion with the same import to parade. They win on the first campaign together. They had still their guys, Paul Lee, Ian Sangalang, Barocca, and Romeo Travis. Magnolia was one of the best defensive teams when they beat Alaska a year ago. Given their strength who reached the finals in All Filipino Cup. A win away to dethrone the Beermen until they lose in Game Seven.
Talk n Text Phone Pals
With the veteran Jason Castro and parading their import who played in NBA. They reached the finals with RR Pogoy and Troy Rosario at the last conference. With a hungry team to win a title four years ago. They are going to do their best to be in the mix again.
San Miguel Beer
The last time who had a run to win a rare grand slam was Talk n Text who came up short in 2011. Lost to the Petron now San Miguel in Governors Cup. If their import can mix to their talented locals they can win it all. JuneMar Fajardo is still unbeatable one on one in the paint. Their point guards and wings were so depth. The championship experience for the team was too much to overcome.
The finalist last year had still a good chance for this conference. They had the depth with Chris Banchero leading the charge. Vic Manuel who misses last time around was healthy. They had the same guys unless Maverick Ahinmisi is ready to go. Then much better for the Aces, but the main key is how their import fits with the team. With his versatility, I think they can have a deep run for the season-ending conference.
