Philippine Basketball: What went wrong and right in Magnolia’s loss

The defending champion drops their first game against the Meralco Bolts. They had a comfortable lead most of the game. It looks like the Magnolia going to list their first win. It was a 16 point lead halfway through the second quarter.

The Good

Marc Pingris is back, finally after a significant amount of games. In limited minutes was felt by his teammates. The Pinoy Sakuragi a vocal leader and heart and soul of his team.

PJ Simon throwback performance scoring 12 points. He helps his team to settle for a comfortable lead early in the game. Simon looks like a younger player who can slash and convert a smooth jump shot.

Spreading the wealth for the whole team. Five players scored in double figures by using nine players. Every one of them knows their roles. Only Rafi Reavis and Rome deal Rosa didn’t score but fill their numbers on the defensive end.

The Bad

With a six-point lead in the final four minutes of the game 92-86. They didn’t defend the three-point line. The Bolts scored for three consecutive three points to steal the lead 95-92. Worst of it they never converted in that final minutes. With an abundance of a scorer on the floor, they can’t find a clutch or a guy who they need most.
