Asean Basketball League: Hongkong Eastern Lions Upset Alab Pilipinas

The Hong Kong Eastern Lions beat the defending champion Alab Pilipinas in Game 2 and advances to the semifinals in third straight season in franchise history. The duo of O’ Darrien Basset and Marcus Elliots help their team to upset the number two seed. They will face either the Singapore Slingers or Macau Black Bears, Slingers hold the lead with 1-0.

They limit the production of Alab Pilipinas to 14 points in second quarter and take a 19 point lead at halftime. Since then, the Lions never look back as Marcus Elliot tallied 31 points. With his partner O’Darrien Basset the team best player, they took advantage the fast face of the game.They found their shooter everywhere on the court all game.

Of course the Game 1 which the Lions came back from the game when downed by 18 points in third quarter, as Basset led the team to a two point victory. The inside presence of PJ Ramos and Renaldo Balkman is not enough to defend the crown.

In winning the series, the Lions are dangerous to upset whoever they face on next round. As they rely on this duo and team are balance of shooters who are waiting in the corner to take a wide open three. They are hard to defend when ODB is flying around, no guard can stop him on perimeter. Marcus Elliot on the other hand isn’t afraid to bang up inside even though his lack in size. The Shooters need to maintain their stroke in three so they can give breather to Basset.
