How did the Spurs secure their first win against the Rockets

The Spurs recorded their first preseason win after four games by beating the Houston Rockets 128- 114. The game was never been close as the scores shows. Spurs dominated the Rockets even James Harden and Russell Westbrook played plenty of minutes.

The reason why the Spurs excelled was their defense as a team and individually. Dejounte Murray leads the charge was in front of Westbrook and Harden most of the time. Using his length his hands were quick to bother the two MVPs when they get to the paint. Even Lonnie Walker IV had his moments with Harden. They shut down the perimeter with these Spurs all-defensive team.


The LaMarcus Aldridge jump shot was smooth. He made a tough shot all game, he looks comfortable playing on the perimeter against Clint Capela. Giving his team the second chance opportunity. Aldridge was efficient inside the court just missing two attempts. It wasn’t easy for him guarding by a defensive player like Capela.

With the absence of DeMar DeRozan, Walker played most of his minutes. Had the best +21 with his 23 minutes. Even he just made two field-goal his impacts playing the passing lane was so valuable. He’s improving his court vision totaled four assists with a single turnover. If he can consistent on offense it’s hard to see him on the bench most of the time.


Derrick White finally regains his scoring ability. The coaching staff just waiting for these moments to come to him. With others concerned about his performance in the last three games he isn’t worried. A timely moment for him when the game counts he can help his team to win. The same story for him last season finding his groove when the season goes on.


The Marco Belinelli of the World Cup is playing in Spurs basketball. He made a lot of tough three, involved his teammates. Marco was limited on the defensive side of the ball but if he keeps shooting hot it makes the Spurs better. The spacing he provides to the team was great. His movement inside the court creates an oppurtunity for the Spurs.


The presence of Jakob Poeltl was a big factor in this game. An underrated scorer and a passer who keeps his team better every game. He excelled give his team another option in pick and roll. His awareness to find where his teammates are when he is on the post was a class. The big man takes himself in the right place to score without costing a turnover.
